These lessons that we've learned here have only just begun[/center]

sexuality;; heterosexual
We were the kings and queens of promise
We were the victims of ourselves
We were the victims of ourselves
appearance;;Jae is rather tall and skinny for his age, standing at about five feet three inches tall, give or take a little. This alone would make him stand out a little bit, but with a short crop of thick, vibrant orange hair that sticks almost straight up out of his head, it's impossible not to notice him. He has a great deal of freckles spattered across his long nose that are echoed on his arms and other various parts of his body. His ears are similarly marked, and are far too large for him, almost giving Jae the appearance of an elephant. His hands and feet are similarly disproportionate in size, making him have a somewhat lopsided appearance. Possibly his only normal features are his eyes, which are an uninteresting bluish-grey color.
In general, he wears very similar clothing: a simple, solid colored t-shirt and jeans in the summer, with the same attire with the addition of a black Pok?mon League sweatshirt in winter. He often wears this sweatshirt excessively late in the spring and early in the fall, even when temperatures rise into the eighties because he finds it comfortable and he likes to remind himself what he's striving for. His shoes are generally black with brown-used-to-be-white accents because he gets them dirty so often.
personality;;Jae has changed quite a lot since he first became a trainer. He used to be just one of those genuinely nice, outgoing people. Okay, maybe he was just really talkative. He was one of those characters that liked to hear the sound of their own voice. So regardless if he was around people or not, talking to someone else or not, he was generally talking, whether it was to himself, his Pok?mon, or no one in particular. If he wasn't talking, then he'd be singing, despite the fact that he can't carry a tune to save his life, or even at least rhyme particularly well.
Most of the time, however, he could somehow manage to find at least one thing to talk about with any random stranger he might come across on the street, which has carried on through to the present day. He feels really awkward around girls still, because he only just got past the whole "cooties" stage. He used to be easily excitable, especially when around new and interesting Pok?mon, but his many experiences throughout Torrenta caused him to mellow a bit.
Being as young as he is, Jae can be rather naive. He always tries to see the best in people and so can be incredibly optimistic. However, once he's in battle he can get a little cocky and overconfident at times. This isn't entirely without reason though, because he comes across as a bit of a battling prodigy. He has an incredible knack for coming up with ingenious strategies and is always looking to improve his skills.
When he was a trainer in Torrenta, Jae hadn't had a heck of a lot of human interaction aside from the occasional trainer or gym battle. For this reason, he's gotten much better at reading his Pok?mon and being able to figure out generally what they want. Despite his love of talking to other people and his ease with interacting with others, he's always had a hard time holding onto travel partners. For the most part, he's highly resilient and incredibly determined which was one of the major reasons for him getting to and defeating the Torrentian Elite Four.
As much as he tries to act all brave and tough, darkness and creepy Pok?mon kind of scare the crap out of him sometimes. When he was traveling along the Torrentian desert route, he came across a cave filled with bloodthirsty, cannibalistic bat Pok?mon, so he's always very wary of them now. He's really broken up about having to leave all of his Pok?mon behind, but Vermella seems as good a place as any to begin the next part of his journey as a Pok?mon trainer.
family;;Mother: Kathleen Burns
Father: Lee Burns
Brothers: Bartholomew (19) and Chester Burns (17)
Sister: Abigail Burns (21)
history;;Jae was born in a small house just outside of Torrenta, the youngest of four children born to Kathleen and Lee Burns. He was a bit of an 'accident', coming into the world a full seven years after his brother, Chester, born third in the family. His two oldest siblings are spaced two years apart, with his sister Abigail being the eldest, and his brother Bartholomew the second eldest. Up until he was about 3, his entire family adored him, for they'd forgotten what it was like to have a really young child in the house. Once he hit his toddler stage though, his siblings started ignoring him and so he clung to a stuffed Charmander toy his grandmother had bought him for his birthday for comfort.
When he turned five, he started regularly watching the Pokémon League competitions on television along with his older siblings, and really started getting interested in someday becoming a great Pokémon trainer. Despite the fact that he annoys the living daylights out of his brothers and sister most days, he really looks up to them, which is another reason why he'd become so interested in Pokémon anyways. Since the Torrenta Lab was so much closer to home than the lab of his own region, he has decided that, in order to get started on his journey faster, he was going to travel through Torrenta instead. Although he no longer carries the stuffed Charmander from his childhood around with him wherever he goes, it was the Pok?mon he chose when he went to the Torrenta Lab for the first time.
He named his first starter Elmo, after the stories around St. Elmo's Fire, and up until his starter evolved into a Charmeleon, Jae and his Charmander were the best of friends. They quickly built up a team together, adopting Pok?mon here and there or catching them on their travels. One of the earliest to join their team was a young Phanpy whom Jae named Doyle. Elmo's relationship with Doyle didn't start out ideally, but over the course of their journey, they've grudgingly accepted each other. Another of the earliest Pok?mon to Jae's team was a young Horsea named Morgan. These three Pok?mon ended up as the backbone of Jae's team throughout his travels.
Jae blew right through the fighting-type Harku Gym, defeating it with Elmo (a Charmeleon then) and Doyle (still in his Phanpy stage). Route 2 was rather uneventful for the most part, though as Elmo gained levels, Jae started to use him less and less in favor of training the others on his team. Even when the region hosted one of its first major tournaments, Jae ended up using Doyle, Vista (his Tentacool) and Dizzee Mack (his Pikachu) rather than including his own starter. This caused Elmo a lot of frustration and actually led to his furious evolution in the Sealan Gym.
Jae started out with his Charmeleon against the grass-type gym leader's Ivysaur, but when he went to switch him out for his Houndoom to battle the Exeggutor, Elmo went into a rage and evolved in order to try to attack his trainer. Jae was just able to recall his Charizard in time, but it was too late. He ended up losing Elmo as a teammate for a number of months and he finished the Sealan Gym battle using his Weavile. Most of the time, Jae was too afraid to even touch his Charizard's Pok? Ball for fear that Elmo would try to attack again. Elmo did emerge once of his own accord to fight back a horde of cannibalistic bat Pok?mon on Route 3 in an attempt to save Jae, but he returned himself to his capsule before Jae could thank him.
Months later, Jae mustered up the guts to try to win Elmo's trust back. While battling a Gyarados, another Charizard and a demon spirit named Something Wicked, Elmo and Jae managed to reconcile and started the long and painful healing process of their relationship. Even today, it still hasn't completely healed.
Kargarius City and Fyra Town, home to the respective water and fire gyms, were pretty uneventful for the most part. Jae used his Pikachu, Shedinja and Sawsbuck against the former while he resorted primarily to his Kingdra and Garchomp for the latter. He met up with an older trainer named Nick Dias on the Kargarius Suspension Bridge, and the two traveled together all the way up until the Elite Four. Jae ended up defeating Nick in battle on the way to Glacier Town along the shoreline of the river, but Jae still very much sees as an older brother figure and a successful trainer.
In Glacier Town, Jae relied on Elmo and Jalen, his recently obtained Mienshao, to defeat Forgun and his ice-type Pok?mon. From there, Jae and his friend Nick went on to the Elite Four. The spunky twelve-year old went through first, defeating each of the members as he faced them. To be quite honest, he'd been expecting a bit more of a fight from the Elite Four and when it came time to battle Rai's final Pok?mon, Jae decided to use Elmo. Though the Charizard had been injured quite badly earlier on, he managed to defeat the Eelektross, allowing Jae to claim the title as Torrenta's third Champion.
Since winning, however, Jae's had a difficult time trying to figure out where to go next in his life. He tried his hand at Pok?mon Coordinating in an attempt to lessen his spare time, and he took to exploring the Torrenta region and training up the rest of his Pok?mon. He ended up breaking his arm in a serious fall off of Elmo deep in the Torrentian desert, which took some time to heal. However, he's back in the game now and has chosen to journey elsewhere rather than restart his journey in Torrenta. Vermella was an obvious choice for him, but he's still devastated about having to leave his old region behind.
